Have you ever noticed that when there is a need in community, that there are certain people who you just expect to be there, because when there are people in need they are always the first to step up and help.
Linda is one of those people. A helper.
can't tell you how many times during my three years in Wellsboro I have happened upon people who were in need and Linda was already there helping. With regularity she goes out of her way to provide transportation for people who don't have a car or don't drive. When there are people who need help and she is not able to help she will work to connect them with someone who can help.
It is clear that Linda believes with all of her heart that every person is someone who is known and loved by God, and she makes certain that if they did not believe this about themselves, that by the end of the day they at least came to know that they were known and loved by her.
As I consider Linda's example, my thoughts go to reflecting on the words of the Apostle Paul that show up in chapter 12 of his letter to the ancient Corinthian community. Paul writes that "a spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other."
I see the spiritual gifts of kindness, encouragement, and hospitality in Linda. There are many spiritual gifts; but the trick to living the best life possible is to use the spiritual gifts God has given us to help others.
Well known pastor and TV personality Mr. (Fred) Rogers is quoted as having said, “when I was a boy and I would see scary things in
the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will
always find people who are helping.”
I hope you are as inspired by Linda's story as I am, and I hope that God will give each of us opportunities to be the helpers this week.
