Childlike wonder

As I wandered through the forest with the Girl Scout troop led by Bonnie Rogers, I felt inspired by the childlike wonder shared by the scouts. I need more of that in my life. To wonder while I wander. To open my heart to being overcome by the beauty of cascading waterfalls and blooming wildflowers. To entertain the mystery of an owl as illusive as a ghost but leaves signs of its presence to be found during the day.

I recall that these are words recorded to have been spoken by Jesus to his disciples:

“Anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”

The Kingdom of God is like the smallest of seeds that grows into the largest of plants.

The Kingdom of God is like a little yeast that permeates a whole batch of dough.

In the Kingdom of God, the community values are faith, hope, and love.

In the Kingdom of God, peace is the vision.

In the Kingdom of God, Jesus is the King.

I want to receive and celebrate these intangible gifts of God with the same childlike wonder with which the Girl Scouts wandered through the forest today. Don’t you?

What a joy it is, to experience and share the love of God with childlike wonder as we wander through life together.
