Yours, not mine

This afternoon I took a couple of hours to run south along the West Rim Trail from the Barbour Rock Trailhead to the Siemons trailhead and looped it back to Barbour Rock parking lot along West Rim Road. All in all it was about an 8 mile run, and that stretch has some SOLID HILLS!

As I traversed mud, rocks, and logs along the trail I was gifted with the songs of black-throated-blue, black-throated-green, blackburnian, and hooded warblers as well as red-eyed and blue-headed vireos.

While taking the hill between Painter-Leetonia road and Thompson Hollow road I found myself praying. As I prayed I was reflecting upon Jesus' prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14:36) while taking in all of the beauty of the trail.

Yours, not mine.
Yours, not mine.
Yours, not mine, loving God.
All of this beauty, of red trilliums and Oak trees and singing birds is yours, not mine.
All of the love in the world is yours, not mine.

I struggle with my own temptation and failures to love and the victory over these burdens in my life is yours, not mine. Thank you for the grace and the love you've given me to partner with you in living.

You've made clear the purpose of humanity in the life of Jesus; to worship you, to love, and to allow the lives we are living to tell your story.

Because the story of hope for all people and all of creation is yours, not mine.
Because the love that has the power to change the world is yours, not mine.
Because the vision of peace on earth as it is in heaven is yours, not mine.

Change the desires of my heart, loving God, so it beats in tune with yours; and may the change you've brought about within me find expression in my living because I want more than anything for this life that I have the great joy of living (thanks be to God!) to tell of your timeless story of grace, peace, hope, and love, not mine.
